Nearly 25,000 residences in southeastern Queensland found themselves lacking electricity on Monday morning after intense storm systems passed over the area, bringing powerful gusts hitting 109 kilometers per hour.

Homeowners observed giant hailstones measuring up to 7cm in certain regions. Meteorological experts verified that different parts across the state had been hit with large hailstones.

Victorian Weather Woes

Meanwhile, nearly 1,000 energy customers in Victoria also faced power outages after Melbourne recorded its heaviest rainfall in over 500 days.

Emergency response teams received 598 requests for assistance across the area, mostly for structural issues but also for collapsed vegetation and inundation.

• Hoppers Crossing suburb - numerous assistance requests
• Wyndham region - nearly 180 calls for assistance

During the peak on yesterday, in excess of 28,000 energy customers in Victoria were lacking electricity.

Meteorological Predictions

Damp conditions were forecast to persist along large portions of Queensland's east this week as a low-pressure trough continued to pull in damp air against the shoreline.

The following day was expected to become the heaviest precipitation period, with continued storm activity expected across different parts of both regions.

Safety Concern

Public health experts warned that there was an higher risk of weather-related respiratory issues across the countryside regions, particularly given the existing atmospheric conditions.
