Lando Norris Leads Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session

The McLaren driver narrowly beat team-mate and title rival the Australian for the fastest time in the dying seconds of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.

The British racer, who grabbed the points lead from his teammate by a single point after his victory in Mexico City two weeks ago, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s.

Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair throughout the hour before the sprint shootout set to begin at 18:30 GMT.

The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the points battle, lying 36 points Norris, finished in 17th position as his Red Bull team opted for a different programme.

Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to crash, though minor, when he spun at corner four soon after starting.

Tsunoda spun out over the track edges before spinning across the gravel trap, and was lucky to escape with just a minor contact of the wall.

Ferrari's the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the very end of the practice, turning around through the high-speed corner before the final corner on to the start-finish straight.

Hamilton ended the session in P19, one place behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.

Norris and Piastri were well clear of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's car third fastest, over half a second off Piastri's pace.

The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
